Iran geographical regions

The vast territory of Iran, which is covered by high mountains, evergreen forests, barren deserts and extended sandy beaches among the coast lines. In order to distinguish between these ones, they are categorized in to 4 separate stages which are mentioned below.

It’ll be so amazing to know that in a single country while a region with high amount of rainfalls and evergreen forests and sandy deserts and barren regions are existing.

Iran regions | Southern Coasts of Khazar

Southern Coasts of Khazar are a limited region locating between the Caspian Sea and Alborz Mountain Range including 3 provinces including GilanMzandaran and Gorgan.

To describe the climate features of this specific region, it should be mention that not only among the other Iranian provinces but also, even among the other Asian countries, such climate is wondering by bulk of rainfalls and the high range of humidity.

This specific type of climate has been formed by two main geographical factors including really low height of this region in comparison to the sea level and the special air flows which causes these regions to rain.

Iran regions | Central plateau

The majority of Iran extension has been covered by the central plateau which is surrounded by southern hillsides of Alborz from North, eastern hillsides of Zagros from west, and many eastern region from east.

Being dry and deserted is the main character of this region’s climate with long lasting warmness more than 7 months of year. Lack of rainfalls is another component of this specific region which has been caused reduction of this region’s fertility.

Iran regions | Southern Coasts

Lack of rainfall, extreme dryness, extreme warmness, deadly warm summers, mild and cool winters and high amount of humidity have formed the climate concept of this specific region.

As the southern coasts are so extended spreading out from Khuzestan plain locating at southwestern parts of Iran to southeastern parts, the declared climate features alternate from a region to the other in a way that in comparison to the extreme summer heat the freezing climate will also been probable.

Iran regions | Mountainous Climate

Iranian mountainous climate can be taken apart into two main levels as:

Cold Mountainous Climate and the mild one. Near 25% of Iran’s extension has been covered by high mountains with the average temperature of 3 degrees. In order to describe this specific region, the below items can be mention:

  1. Separation of various mountainous regions
  2. Mountain peaks higher than 3000 meter
  3. Extremely coldness through winters
  4. Moderation through the summers

Iranian mountainous regions have long lasting cold weathers. Snowfall and freezing periods especially through the western and northern mountains lasts about a few months while the heat period is so short with mild summers.
